Your Child Doesn’t Hate Learning. They Just Haven’t Met the Right Teacher Yet

I learned this lesson long before I became a coach.

As a student, I never hated subjects. I only loved or disliked teachers.

Maths was never my favourite. Not because I couldn’t understand it, but because the classroom felt heavy. Numbers and formulas came and went, and the bell felt like the only relief. I studied because I had to, not because I wanted to.

Biology was different.

The moment the biology period began, the classroom felt alive. Concepts turned into stories. Diagrams felt like conversations. I still remember how eagerly I waited for those lectures. In 11th, I was fortunate to learn from the renowned Ramesh Upadhye sir. In 12th, Musale sir carried that same magic forward. They didn’t just teach chapters. They made us feel the subject.

That’s when it quietly settled in my mind.

A good teacher doesn’t just teach a subject. A good teacher awakens interest.

Years later, when I stepped into chess coaching, that realisation stayed with me.

At our chess school, something simple yet powerful happens. Children don’t need to be forced to attend class. They walk in excited. They smile. They talk. They sit at the board ready, not tired. Not afraid of making mistakes.

Not because chess is easy. But because the atmosphere is safe, positive, and alive.

Here, losing a game isn’t embarrassing. Asking a question is encouraged. Every child feels seen. When the environment is right, learning happens naturally. With joy.

That’s what many people overlook.

Children don’t fall in love with chess, maths, or science on their own. They fall in love with how it is taught.

A teacher can turn fear into curiosity. Pressure into confidence. And learning into a lifelong habit.

So before you label your child as uninterested or distracted, pause for a moment. The right teacher can change everything.
